When Nick Fury has all that gear on, what do you think it sounds like when he moves?
I know I’m a few years late here, but I can give you a different perspective on the X-Men #1.
My introduction to X-Men came from reading Classic X-Men comics- mostly from the Cockrum and Byrne runs. So I knew the classic characters quite well.
Several times I wanted to transition from reading those classic issue to reading the (then) current ’80s Uncanny X-Men, but found it mind bogglingly difficult. There was basically no way to figure out what was going on. Somehow, that wasn’t such a big problem for X-Factor or the other X-Men comics at the time.
X-Men #1 was the first time I was able to understand what the hell was happening in a current X-Men comic without consulting my friends who made up a whole bunch of lore because they didn’t understand what the hell was going on either.
I am squarely on the side that Clairmont left on a good note, even if he would have objected to moving back toward an older status quo. And with the best looking Magneto that I had ever seen.
