Bret Blevins’ art got progressively more expressive and shadowy during his run. I believe Terry Austin was inking him in the beginning and gave it that slick, kind of commercial “house” style that was perfectly fine. As he went on, Al Williamson took over and it was a perfect fit for the darker inky style that lent itself to the issues leading up to Inferno. I grew to really appreciate his work. I met Bret Blevins this past weekend at Silicon Valley Comic-Con (super sweet guy!) and told him that when he left the book, I was just as sad as when Sienkiewicz left before him.
This is totally unrelated to the X-Universe. I’m so glad you mentioned Poe, Jay. She is such a talent, but people rarely bring her up. It is a shame her career was ruined. Both of those albums are fantastic. I went through them to make sure I was correct in my guess as to which one is Madelyne’s theme song. I suppose I’ll find out soon enough assuming you were serious about bringing it up during Inferno.
100% serious. It is SO completely the Madelyne Pryor Song in my head at this point. (And now I’m curious as to which you’re guessing that it is. I won’t confirm yet, but I will drop one hint: it’s from Haunted.)
I knew it had to be from ‘Haunted’. I will just have to wait. Adds a bit of excitement to the already exhilarating Inferno 🙂
