I found EXM to be good. Not spectacular, not anything to change anyone’s mind. But good. The Iceman/Anole scene was good. And Illyana is always great. The series is definitely better than when it started. I will say that, if this was the opening arc, I would probably still be picking it up, instead of mooching from someone else. If it keeps this quality, I might start picking it back up.
I love Sorrentino and Maiolo’s art in Old Man Logan. They’re fantastic. They do action and brutality well.
Worst X-Men Ever is definitely a lot of fun.
You mentioned that characterization for Magik hasn’t been done all that well since Claremont and Simonson’s stuff – I was wondering what you guys felt about Gillen’s work on her – specifically, towards the end of Avengers vs X-Men, when she reveals she could’ve just cut Colossus away from the Juggernaut powers anytime she wanted, she just wanted him to understand how much of a monster she was.
Every appearance of her I’ve seen since has sort of been in context of that.
(also this is slightly nitpicky and I apologize for that but I’m pretty certain Sapna is pronounced to rhyme with up-la.)
I generally liked Gillen’s take on Illyana – especially the part you mentioned with Colossus – but for me, she felt like a different character than she used to be. (I suppose, technically she is given all the New X-Men stuff.) She’s a good Illyana, just not my Illyana.
I thought this Extraordinary was great, especially compared to the slow start.
Welcome back, Jay! (I haven’t had time to read the X-books this week, but thought it was important to say that)
New artist?! Well, time to put my money where my mouth is, I am so going to check it out now!
