I’m mildly surprised the baby announcement wasn’t used in a “What?!?”, but I’ve never had a good sense of social appropriateness so maybe that would have been tacky.
Congrats on the impending parenthood, Jay! It’s a real life Siege Perilous; you don’t know what’s on the other side; all you can know is that you’ll come out the other side changed in ways you couldn’t possibly foresee.

As for things that bring me joy: cooking big meals for people (it’s why I love the late fall/winter holidays), live theatre (especially when, like Jay alluded to, it’s doing things that can only be done in theatre…and also especially when it’s a really fresh take on an old play or just a musical with an epic 11 oclock number or Act 1 finale), cuddling with my dog, discovering something new in somewhere I’ve lived for a while.

Speaking of ’80s music, Duran Duran’s new album “Future Past” has a lot of songs about longing, and one called “More Joy!,” and their concerts are wonderful group experiences.
