In which the All-New X-Men reading order breaks laws of space and time, depth of focus is a startlingly underused storytelling tool, and Rachel’s blood feud with the Denver Airport continues.

So I totally agree about the “not my Rachel Grey/Summers” in SatXM. I know saying that someone’s acting out of character in a comic is a silly argument (and usually boils down to, they’re not acting like they did 20 years ago, so it’s wrong) but the Jean Grey School faculty are really acting weirdly out of character, particularly since they’re not acting that way in the other concurrent book. At the same time, the kids are all mostly acting like they have been with the minor modifications you’d expect from someone taking classes with Spider-man.
Also the distrust of Spider-man they all seem to have is really weird. They’ve literally worked with him for years, why is it now that they’re flipping out?
I’m loving the book…but the other teachers are really weirding me out. So I’m going with a gas leak in the teacher’s lounge as the explanation. 🙂
I dunno. I buy the in-text explanation for Rachel’s and Ororo’s distrust…Spidey’s a non-mutant, an Avenger, and he hides his civilian identity. After AvX I think it’s smart for the X-Men to distrust him for those reasons. But the writing of Rachel and Ororo is definitely weaker than the stuff with the students, which has all been fantastic. More Shark Girl!
Welcome back, Rachel!
All-New X-Men #37 confused me at first, because the story seems to have nothing to do with the synopsis. I like that Jean gets to have a personality and character development. I liked some of the interaction between Jean and Emma as well, but not so much the fight scene between Jean and Blob. I don’t know a lot about Emma, so I am looking forward to see how she and Jean interact in the future.
Still have to read Spider-Man and the X-Men. It sounds fun.
Yeah, at this point I’m taking it as read that the solicitation copy and covers have absolutely nothing to do with the actual issues. It’s gotten ridiculous.
Hey, I have not read these books yet, but I did just read the first three issues of Squirrel Girl based on your recommendation in the end bit a few reviews episodes ago (is that a “cold close”? I don’t know these entertainment business terms). AMAZING. Thanks for the heads-up.
Tag, I think? Anyway, that’s what we call it when we’re saving files.
